Oenothera biennis – Evening Primrose – common name Night willow-herb, contains essential fatty acids (vitamin F), linolenic acid and γ-linolenic acid (GLA). The body is not able to produce these acids by itself. They have to be supplied via food. The body is able to produce prostaglandin from these acids. Prostaglandin is indispensible for proper functioning of the body; it increases, inhibits or qualitatively changes the influence of hormones on the body. Evening Primrose works curatively on wounds and relieves respiratory problems (asthma). Regular use of Evening Primrose oil improves hair and nail quality, helps keep juvenile appearance of complexion. It eliminates premenstrual tension and pain during menstruation. Long term usage of Evening Primrose oil decreases the susceptibility of the body to allergic reactions. A big success for Evening Primrose is its use by people affected by atopic eczema, applied either internally or locally. Evening Primrose has a remarkable influence even on disseminated sclerosis. Another positive effect of Evening Primrose oil is its ability to slow the onset of diabetes, ability to eliminate hyperactivity caused by enhanced functioning of the thyroid gland and its ability to decelerate the process of aging.
